The weekend

Dobry Dien, (Good Day!) from all of us in Ukraine!

We have had a great first few days!

Almost all of our team has arrived! Early Saturday morning the six team members from Washington made it safely! They had over 30 hours of traveling! They are troopers! We are still waiting for the three from New Mexico arrive sometime this evening.Everyone was supposed to come in on Thursday evening. There has been a lot of mix up with traveling.

The weather has been slightly cool here which has been nice! It is supposed to get warmer throughout this week.

Because we were missing most of the team on Friday the people who were here went to Odessa and did a bit of walking around. They walked by the water side and had a lunch at Pusata Hata, a Ukrainian buffet. Early Saturday morning (2 AM) the other team members arrived. We ate breakfast together and then began our day of orientation and training. During our orientation we talked about things we would encounter in the Ukrainian culture, what will be happening in the classroom, participated in some team building activities and broke up in groups to plan out our “American Night” that we will be putting on for our hosts.

We are lodging in a Youth Center that was recently opened in a renovated church building. We sleep upstairs in a dorm room setting and the church is downstairs.

Today we worshipped at the Petrodolina Lutheran Church, here in our village. Some of our team, Donald Inglis and Matthew Phillips (playing guitar) shared a song during worship, while Pastor Don Pieper preached. We were warmly received by all. We had a wonderful lunch outside under the gazebo! We were able to fellowship with church members. After lunch we went over to the school to take our supplies and set up our classrooms.

We also spent some time this evening getting better acquainted with our Ukrainian translators and going over last minute “housekeeping”.

John and I are still lacking some sleep due to both kids waking up at night. Last night was better than any other night, so maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel with changing over sleep patterns! Please keep praying for us in this area!

Our first day of camp starts tomorrow, Monday July 2nd!

Please Pray For:

  • Our team, the students; for openness to the Gospel.
  • Our first day of camp to run smoothly!

Praise God For:

  • Safe travel
  • For good first few days of bonding with the team!
  • That He provided lovely facilities for us and that we were able to find rooms and translators for each class.

by His grace,

John & Nichole
